For the Midsummer Exhibition at The Place I have selected a number of floral photographic images, taken using my back light/ front lighting technique. This gives the petals and leaves a beautiful transparency, making them look like ‘hyper-real’ watercolour paintings. They don’t look like photographs! These images are all printed on heavy weight matte cotton rag paper, using archival inks and materials. The framed prints are all limited edition. I will only print and frame up to 30 at this – or larger size – from each digital file.
I have hand made the frames from Beli wood (Julbernardia pellegriniana). This is a striking sustainable exotic hardwood, featuring a golden brown base with contrasting zebra-like stripes. I have chosen to place the stripes predominantly to the sides of the frames, so the wild, flowing grain is in the face of the frame, which are all finished in fragrant lemon oil.

In ‘Folding the Jack’ the harmonograph is adjusted to near octave tuning, giving quite a simple folded pattern. The light source used for the image has synchronous colour switching to emulate the Union flag.
The paper used for this print is ‘Fine Art Baryta’ which enhances the vibrancy of the colours. The inks used are professional pigment based, for extremely long life (100+ years) without fading.
