Week One Complete
What a week! Every inch of my body hurts! My hands are sore, my arms and neck hurt and I am exhausted. Katie also has sore muscles and is in need of sleep. Despite the aches and pains, we have loved every second. We have scraped, filled, sanded, painted, rollered, artexed, glossed and cleaned. We have been there at all sorts of strange hours from early mornings to really late at night, but we are making progress. Most of the upstairs is now painted which was a mammoth task considering how many rooms there are. We had a few setbacks which considering the age of the property wasn’t surprising. But I think that we are winning.
Phil, my husband, came on Friday to lend a hand and we took another big step forward. He took down the partition walls in the shop and opened it up better than we could ever have imagined.
He then moved upstairs to The Events Room taking down the wall of shelves and laying the floor. It is looking so good now, we love it.
As well as decorating Katie has been busy organising and finalising details, ordering wool and fabric (eeek – super exciting!) and planning workshops and groups. She has also been sourcing items like toys for the groups, highchairs, changing tables, sofas and more. We didn’t want to just buy new when we could find perfectly good used items and continue to build upon our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle ethos. The response from people has been amazing! Every item donated helps to build the community we are imagining, and we can’t wait to welcome people through the door. We keep having moments of complete panic that there is absolutely no way we can get everything ready in time. But we will. We are on schedule.
A big thank you to Claire and Isobel from Unique Births for coming in to help us out this week - it was much appreciated! Also a welcome to Sarah from Toddle Talk who has booked to start her classes with us April 17th. We are very excited to have her on board.
Week 2 is all about the shop. Now that the wall is down and ceiling patched, we can crack on with the decorating, flooring, shelves, tables and till desk. We think we have decided on the paint colour. It has changed numerous times, but I am buying it tomorrow unless I have a moment overnight. The flooring is in the boot of my car ready to be laid. Phil is stuck working, so I am taking on the job. Ahhhh. I have done it before but it was a while back and not on such a big scale. I will be ok once I get started.
There is still so much to do. I had my jab this afternoon, so I have my fingers crossed that I don’t have the flu like symptoms some people are feeling. I really don’t have the time. Thanks to everyone for all the support so far. We will keep you updated.
